Michael R. Eades was born in Springfield, Missouri on June 19, 1947. He received his BSCE degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly), Pamona, California in 1970 and his MD from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 1979. After completing training in General Surgery as UAMS, Dr. Eades (along with his wife) founded Medi-Stat Medical Clinics, a chain of general family medicine outpatient care centers in central Arkansas, where he practiced general family medicine for over a decade.

In 1989, Dr. Eades wrote Thin So Fast (Warner Books), a health and nutrition book detailing how to safely undertake a modified protein sparing fast (such as Oprah Winfrey had used to lose her famous 67 pounds of fat) at home, with minimal expense.

Mary Dan Eades was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas (across the street from former President Bill Clinton) on November 14, 1953. She received her BS in Life Sciences Chemistry/Biology magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1977 and her MD from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 1981. After completing her internship at St. Vincent Infirmary/UAMS in 1982, she joined her husband in developing and operating their Medi-Stat Medical Clinic chain, practicing general family medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas for the next decade.

In 1990, Dr. Eades wrote her first health books for the layman, If It Runs In Your Family: Breast Cancer and If It Runs In Your Family: Arthritis (Bantam). These were followed by: Freeing Someone You Love From Eating Disorders (Putnam) and The Doctor's Complete Guide to Vitamins and Minerals (Dell). The last listing is still in print.

The Drs. Eades

As writing, lecturing and researching became more and more the focus of their professional careers, the Drs. Eades sold the Medi-Stat Medical Clinic chain in 1991 and left general practice. Since that time, they have focused their professional energies solely on bariatric medicine and nutrition, pioneering the field of metabolic medicine, first with the creation of the Arkansas Center for Health and Weight Control in Little Rock, Arkansas, then subsequently founding the Colorado Center for Metabolic Medicine in Boulder, Colorado.*

*Recently, the demands of writing, teaching, lecturing, speaking, promotional responsibilities, and research have so restricted the time available for their clinic-based practice that they have opted to take a sabbatical from private practice, beginning in 2002.
