Obama Nominates Rabid Anti-gunner to Head the ATF

It was not a good sign that Barack Obama kept his nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives a secret until after the midterm election --- and then quickly announced that anti-gun zealot Andrew F. Traver would be named to fill the slot.

After being blasted before November 2's election by the liberal New York Times for failing to beef up the ATF by appointing a director --- for fear of the wrath of the "gun lobby" --- Obama gets right past the election and, presto chango, a nominee appears. How 'bout that?

And not just any nominee.

As special agent in charge of Chicago's ATF field division, Traver had taken the lead in calling for a ban on semiautomatic firearms.

And Chicago, of course, has been the epicenter of anti-gun government activism. It is not surprising that Traver has also been active in the virulently anti-gun International Association of Chiefs of Police, which has worked to empower Handgun Control-type activists and has commissioned panels to:

* support one-gun-a-month and lock-up-your-safety laws, as well as "ballistic fingerprinting" files on all firearms;

* espouse an "effective" ban on .50-caliber firearms, and a redefinition of "armor-piercing" ammunition that could effectively ban handgun use;

* mandate gun-destruction policies for law enforcement and enhanced funding to go after guns;

* prohibit all private gun sales and make "prohibited persons" out of a much wider variety of persons committing simple misdemeanors;

* back a repeal of the Tiahrt amendment; and,

* allow federal health and safety oversight of the firearms industry (through agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Food and Drug Administration).

It is disconcerting that ANY organization espousing these views would be taken seriously. That an activist in such an organization would be put in charge of the ATF is truly troubling.

ACTION: Contact your Senators. Urge them to support a filibuster of the Traver nomination to head the ATF. You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your Senators the pre-written e-mail message below.

A W-9 is the IRS's "Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification." Because of the new healthcare law . . .

If you spend as little as $55 at the local Office Shack each month, you'll exceed $600 for the year. That means you'll need to file a 1099 with the IRS for Office Shack. If someone could secretly stand behind you and monitor everything you’ve done on your PC, what would they discover about you that you would prefer to keep private? Thanks to new technologies that secretly track everywhere you go on the Internet, that’s an appropriate comparison of the threat you face unless you take advance precautions.

Perhaps you’ve never visited a Web site you wouldn’t want your spouse, your children, your neighbors, or the FBI to know about. Perhaps you really do have “nothing to hide.” But if you do, you’ll want to understand the threat to your privacy – and what you can do to protect yourself.

The centerpiece of this threat is a tracking technology that records what Web sites you visit, what links you click on, and what types of search engine questions you ask. If you’ve entered personal information into applications that use these technologies, that data is stored as well. All of it is written to hidden directories on your hard disk. And there it stays – permanently – unless you know how to delete it.

Usually what’s recorded is innocuous. You might not mind that your hard disk has a record of the movies you’ve rented, the fact that you’re interested in photography, or that you want to take pilot lessons. And you might not object to the fact that the companies that create these hidden directories sell the information. For instance, a company selling photographic supplies would surely be interested in presenting an advertisement for its services to someone with a proven interest in photography.

However, perhaps your interests are a bit more controversial. Or even if they’re not, perhaps someone with access to your PC has less conventional preferences than you. In that event, the data in the hidden directories could possibly come back to haunt you, should your PC ever be compromised – or searched by law enforcement.

Say, for instance, that you – or someone with access to your PC – watch a controversial video on the Internet. Guess what? The Web site serving up the video to your browser most likely plants a tracking beacon on your hard drive, where it stays – potentially, forever. Erasing “cookies” in your browser will NOT delete these beacons!

The largest offender in this regard is probably a program called Adobe Flash Player (AFP). Many Web sites use AFP to deliver audio and visual content. But AFP also creates a hidden directory on your hard disk to track the Web sites you visit, especially those with interactive or multimedia features. Companies that plant the beacons use them to personalize your browsing experience, and also sell the data they contain to direct marketing companies.

Since you can’t delete these files from your browser, the most practical way to deal with them is to install a browser add-on program to manage and delete them. One such program is “Better Privacy,” an add-on for Firefox. You can download it here. I’ve configured Better Privacy to delete all AFP beacons when I shut down my browser.

I also suggest that you configure AFP to minimize tracking altogether. You can adjust its settings using a virtual control panel.

I’ve adjusted the settings on my PC to always deny access to my PC’s camera or microphone, never storing any content, and deleting all records of Web sites I’ve visited that use AFP. Those settings, together with the Better Privacy add-on, seem to have rid my PC of “beacons” – at least those from AFP. These settings limit functionality on some Web sites, but so long as you configure AFP to allow programs to ask you for permission to store content, you can control which ones have access to your PC. When you exit your browser, Better Privacy deletes them.

Incidentally, none of AFP’s tracking software violates any U.S. law; at least none of which I’m aware. And don’t look to the government for help – law enforcement agencies surely find beacons on your PC a highly informative tool to track your Web browsing behavior.

With big business and big government collaborating to invade your online privacy, you have only one resource to depend upon – yourself. So if you don’t want permanent records of your online life residing on your hard drive, don’t call your Congressman for help. You alone must take responsibility for protecting your online privacy.

I ask that because the Navy is doing training exercises in a landlocked area. Burton is just outside of What looks like a war ravaged area after GM moved out and ruined the ecconomy.

The military will be there for a wekk and only a couple of days ago announced it on the media even though they have been preparing for months..

They will not tell the residents what to expect except they will notice some low flying helicopters. The Flint Journal Article tells the people that this is a stealth operation and that most residents will not even see the military personnel.

Perhaps they have the ability to cloak themselves like the Klingons do in Star trek.

Many residents only knew about theses exercises because the local media reported on it. Many question why Burton as a training ground? Pe4rhaps they will use the Flint River or the local lake to train on. Those are about the only bodies of water they could train in that little landlocked town.

Other residents are upset that while the Navy claims no live munitions or rounds will be used, they are still put in danger because of the low flying helicopters over their homes. Just watch the news reports and you constantly hear about military helicopters crashing.

Some even fear that the military is training not simply for Iraq and Afghanistan but they are training for something as sinister as rounding up Americans and forcing them into camps or forcing them to take vaccines if there is a massive economic collapse or epidemic.

The military is currently being used to patrol US streets, were used in Alabama recently after a mass shooting and North Com is paroling the streets as well.

No matter how you feel about it or what you think they are doing, we all should be asking, Should the military be training in populated urban areas?

I watched the video and heard the pastor's side of the story and read many of the harsh criticisms because he refused to allow his vehicle be searched.

One would think that a person who is calm and speaking rationally would not have to worry about being beaten and tazed by the police, border patrol or any policing agency for non compliance.

Some assert that the Pastor was wrong and that he should simply have complied 3wiht the BP because a 1976 Supreme Court Ruling upheld the BP's use of check points.

The pastor was not disputing the check points, he was simply asking for probable cause as to be searched along with his vehicle. The BP didn't find any people hiding in the trunk, no guns, no durgs, nothing illegal.

I do not see this as an issue with the pastor, I see this as an issue with the BP who simply did not like it when an American citizen refused to comply with their every whim. His punishment was a beating compliments of the Arizona DPS.

It reminds me of a not so long ago history. The rulers beat their subjects and killed them if they did not comply with all they said.

Is this what our country is moving back towards. A complete police state? I certainly hope not.

One thing I would suggest the pastor do is to invest in some video equipment to have in his vehicle so if he is stopped by BP or any other agency that he has evidence of what just went down. Make sure that the video feed is not stored in the vehicle and that it is sent via cell phone to a secure location.

Perhaps if enough people assert their constitutional rights without violence and then sue all involved when they are violated, those who do the violating will think twice before getting a bit over zealous to force compliance.

I know calling him Mr. is a bit too nice, but I will do my best to remain civil. After all, he has gone down in history as the worst president in the US. Not exactly the brightest either.

His last speech. I was so happy to hear that news and did my best to drown out his fear mongering about the threat of terrorists.

Of course him leaving office after running the country into the ground and starting a war against a country that had nothing to do with 9-11 and stripping away the rights of the American people is bittersweet at best.

We have a new elected leader who will not prove he is constitutionally qualified to take the oath of office. He is man who is ready to continue where Bush left off except he is working on the social issues and more socialization of our nation.

Lets pray that God gives some sense to the new congress and senate and they actually stand up for the American people. Of course, I have a little doubt in that since most of them are the same ones who were in office last year.

There are talks of worldwide rioting, police agencies across the Untied States are offering food vouchers for people who turn in their guns. US military patrolling American Streets and the news goes on and on.

So why should be be of good cheer? Well, simple, God told us too. We may not like all of the things going on and the best we can do is to prepare the best we can for the hard times that are coming. Be sure to learn how to grow and preserve your own food as well as learn how to hunt and fish, plus learn as many natural remedies you can or at least buy a book or print out some from the INTERNET to use if the power is out.
