GOOD NEWS! REAL ID Delayed Again! was the first organization to protest the REAL ID Act, six years ago.

Thankfully, countless other groups took up the charge, and secured nullification in 24 state legislatures.

Because of all that pressure, the Dept. of Homeland Security is once again extending the deadline for states to implement REAL ID.

Let's build on the momentum. Tell Congress to kill REAL ID.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

I am pleased Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano extended the deadline for states to implement REAL ID from this May to January, 2013. If she hadn't done this, people in states that haven't implemented REAL ID could have been denied the right to board an airplane.

But the Secretary can't repeal REAL ID. Congress can, and should.

The REAL ID Act . . .

* Forces innocent American citizens to carry an "internal passport" or National ID card in the form of a standardized state driver's license . . .
* Where their personal information is barcoded and put in a central database . . .
* Which makes them MORE vulnerable to identity theft

REAL ID also violates fundamental liberties. It will be needed not only to board an airplane or enter federal buildings, it could also be required to earn a living, and even to purchase firearms or prescription medication!

In states that have implemented REAL ID, innocent citizens are forced into longer and multiple visits to the DMV, and to track down records and documents to "prove" their identity.

And states are forced to spend money they don't have to comply with it. No wonder two dozen states have chosen to "nullify" REAL ID.

The REAL ID Act is a phony piece of legislation that exploited anti-Moslem and anti-Mexican sentiment. But it can't prevent either terrorism or illegal immigration! The only people it regulates are innocent Americans.

America is better than that.

Show us that YOU'RE better than that. Repeal REAL ID and replace it with nothing.

You can send your letter through's Educate the Powerful System.

And if you have friends who value liberty and privacy, we encourage you to forward this Dispatch to them.

Jim Babka

Anti-gun ObamaCare Celebrates One Year of Lies and Screw-ups

Not since “Rosemary’s Baby” – a ground-breaking film about the birth of the son of Satan – has a one-year-old brought so much bad news during its first year of life.

But, believe it or not, ObamaCare turned one-year-old this week. And what a year it’s been!

Remember the promises that ObamaCare would reduce the deficit? Well, that didn’t happen.

Remember the promises that ObamaCare wouldn’t affect your gun rights in any way? Well, the law will still compile all your health-related medical records into a massive computer database, which the FBI will be able to cull in order to determine whether you have a condition which would justify a gun ban.

GOA has reported on people like Wayne Irelan, who returned from Iraq with a Purple Heart and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When his wife took over the family’s finances, the VA began paying Sgt. Irelan a small stipend.

The Veterans Administration then used this as a basis to define him as “mentally incompetent” and stripped him of gun rights -- just like the other 150,000-plus veterans who have also been disarmed.

Remember the dismissive pronouncements concerning Constitution-loving Americans who didn’t believe that Congress could force them to buy health insurance? Now, 27 states (a majority) have obtained judgments that ObamaCare is unconstitutional.

The Obama administration is going on a vitriolic attack against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, whom it fears will be the deciding vote to throw their legislative abomination into the garbage can of history.

But we can’t count on the Supreme Court to do the right thing. Not with a court including Left-wing crazies like Sonya Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, nor with a Senate contingent that was not willing to stand up to them.

We have to INSIST that Congressmen who ran under the banner of REPEALING AND REPLACING the health care law will actually vote to defund ObamaCare on the next available spending bill.

ACTION: Contact your senators and representative. Insist that they oppose any more “continuing resolutions” or other government spending bills unless they defund ObamaCare.

Should the FBI Know How Many Guns You Own?

The "library records" provision of the so-called Patriot Act could also be known as the "gun records" provision, because it also allows the FBI to seize the forms you use to buy guns.

This infamous provision, Section 215, is a direct assault on your Fourth Amendment rights because it allows the FBI to obtain personal information about you, without a warrant and without your knowledge.

Section 215 is set to expire in May, along with two other provisions. But Congress will probably renew these provisions unless it hears from YOU.

Tell Congress to repeal the ENTIRE Patriot Act, and renew NONE of its provisions.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

The FBI already had powerful tools to combat terrorism before the Patriot Act. The FISA court would allow the FBI to obtain records of suspected terrorists from motels, car rental agencies, storage facilities, and similar businesses.

But the Patriot Act's Section 215 dangerously broadens this power. Now, the FBI can . . .

* Merely claim, without providing ANY evidence, that the information it seeks is "relevant" to a terrorism investigation
* Acquire personal information on anyone, including U.S. citizens not suspected of terrorism (or any other crime)
* "Gag" institutions and businesses so they can't tell people they are being investigated
* Obtain even the most private information, such as emails, medical records, library history, and gun purchase forms

Section 215 violates not only the Fourth Amendment, but also the First and Second Amendments. The federal government has no business knowing what I read or how many guns I own.

The Justice Department's own Inspector General has found that the FBI uses Section 215 powers tens of thousands of times per year, mostly targeted at innocent Americans.

This makes me suspect that the real purpose of Section 215 isn't to protect me, but instead to allow the FBI to spy on, intimidate, and blackmail people it doesn't like, just as it did in the J. Edgar Hoover days.

If you don't want to be compared to J. Edgar, then don't allow the FBI the power to invade the privacy of innocent Americans. Oppose renewal of Section 215. Instead, repeal the Patriot Act!

TAKE ACTION Senate to Consider Anti-gun Funding Resolution on Thursday

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

On Wednesday, the U.S. House ignored the wishes of millions of American voters and passed a do-nothing “Continuing Resolution” (CR) to fund the government for the next three weeks.

The CR now heads to the Senate for an expected vote on Thursday. Gun Owners of America has written Senate members to let them know of its opposition to that CR.

The first issue is ObamaCare. Republicans ran for election promising that they would repeal it -– or at least defund it. But it is increasingly apparent that some members of the leadership lack the courage to defund ObamaCare on the short-term CR … or on the long-term CR on April 8 … or on the debt limit.

So when, exactly, do they intend to show us that their word is worth the paper it is written on?

The problem for gun owners is that ObamaCare will allow the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives(ATF) to troll its health database for Americans who suffer from ailments such as PTSD –-millions of whom could find themselves subject to a gun ban under 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(4).

The second issue for us is that the three-week CR fails to include the Boren-Rehberg amendment, which would block efforts by the ATF to set up an illegal gun registry of multiple firearms sales.

Without defunding ObamaCare –- and without incorporating the Boren-Rehberg amendment -– this CR will continue to fund these unconstitutional activities, thereby endorsing them.

We are particularly sickened by cowards who are so afraid that Barack Obama will shut down his own administration that they are willing to allow him to dictate every provision in each CR.

ACTION: Contact your Senators and tell them to vote against the three-week CR.
Click here to use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your legislator a pre-written e-mail message.

Will Congress Lay the Groundwork for Gun Confiscation?

Wednesday, March 9, 14, 2011

Will Congress Lay the Groundwork for Gun Confiscation?

Within the next 90 days, Congress will vote on whether to reauthorize legislation to specifically allow the government potential access to millions of gun records (4473’s).

Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act, which must be reauthorized soon, is of particular concern.

This section allows the FBI to seize business records -- including the 4473 forms that gun buyers fill out. The only significant caveat is that the FBI must claim that the seizure of records is needed pursuant to “an authorized investigation.”

But since a secret court is required to rubber-stamp the government’s request (unless it fails to make even a specious case), the FBI can easily abuse its authority. The Inspector General found that, between 2003 and 2006, the FBI may have violated the law over 6,000 times with respect to their authority under various provisions of the PATRIOT Act.

So just imagine that it’s your gun records that have been seized. Under such circumstances, the gun dealer is specifically prohibited, under penalty of law, from telling you that the FBI has confiscated the records of your firearms purchases. Under the PATRIOT Act, any limitations on the use of the seized records shall be at the sole discretion of the Department of Justice.

Talk about the fox guarding the hen house!

It is imperative that Congress protect gun owners from rogue government agents who would abuse their authority to register gun owners.

We’ve already seen the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives attempt to register gun owners recently when they tried to require certain gun dealers to report anyone who, within a five day period, tried to purchase two or more semi-automatic rifles (that are .22 caliber or greater and can accept a detachable magazine).

Historically, gun registration has been a prelude to gun confiscation, as documented by the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership almost 20 years ago. They showed how several foreign governments in the Twentieth Century had used gun control -- and quite often gun registration -- to confiscate firearms. In each case, such confiscation was a prelude to genocide.

ACTION: Contact your two senators and insist that any language to reauthorize Section 215 also contain language to protect 4473’s from the Obama administration’s scrutiny. You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at to send your legislators the pre-written e-mail message below.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 KJV

Egyptian Protesters Living under Military Police State?

I received a disturbing twitter message from someone who claims to be in Egypt. They are making claims that the military who is their to temporarily calm things down after their oppressive leader Mubarak fled, is beating, shocking, torturing, arresting and even killing the protesters.

Is the military doing the work that Mubarack would have done while he was there or is there something more to what is happening?

The BBC reported last week Arrests and deaths as Egypt protest spreads across Middle East. You have to ask were the demonstrators really seeking a democracy?

Simply put, they were already living under a dictatorship and a democracy isn't far from it. A democracy can be simply defined as a government that does what is believes is best for the people.

On the other hand, a republic, like the one the US founded upon can be defined as a government that is LIMITED by a Constitution and equally protects the rights of all people equally.

The Mideast is in a turmoil and the people of Egypt want to Live Free however, it appears that they and many others around the region are living under autocratic and military rule.

If truly successful, the people of the mideast will revolt against their leaders and overcome their oppressive governments.

Our hearts and prayers goes out to anyone living under such rule.

Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein. Psalms 69:34 (KJV)

Tea Party & GOP Hardly Any Differnece on Patriot Act

Those concerned with liberty and freedom are not all that pleased with how their newly elected Tea Party members have voted on the Patriot Act Provisions.

Twitter is on fire with disparaging comments about the so called tea party members who voted in support of the renewal provisions of the act.

Most Americans want our nation kept safe, but they do not want it done at the loss of their liberties. Domestic spying, warrantless wiretapping, and the list goes on and on.

The GOP was not able to get the votes they needed for a two-thirds majority this week, so they are taking a new route to get their unconstitutional agenda passed.

They will hold another vote. This time only a majority vote passes or fails. Perhaps, it is time Americans stand up, call, fax and email their supposed representatives and tell them to vote no on the extension of the patriot act.

While they are at it, they should be calling both house and senate members. Because the Democrat controlled senate is working on their own version of the legislation in case the the GOP Controlled House isn't able to pass their version.

The GOP and the Democrats both are ignoring the will of the people. Working hand in hand to shred our liberties. Perhaps, now is the time to tell them, all that they can be replaced by third party candidates come 2012.

Call today (202) 224-3121 TELL THEM NO TO PATRIOT ACT Provisions & Repeal it.

Patriot Act Vote Tuesday TELL GOP JUST SAY NO

Quote of the Day: "If Big Brother (of Orwell's 1984) comes to America, he will not be a fearsome, foreboding figure with a heart-chilling, omnipresent glare as in 1984. He will come with a smile on his face, a quip on his lips, a wave to the crowd, and a press that (a) dutifully reports the suppressive measures he is taking to save the nation from internal chaos and foreign threat; and (b) gingerly questions whether he will be able to succeed." -- Michael Parenti, Source: "Inventing Reality" (1986)

Washington sources tell us that a Patriot Act renewal bill is scheduled for a vote in the House TOMORROW, Tuesday February 8.

They will attempt to pass the bill, H.R.514, under "suspension of the rules," which requires a two-thirds vote.

Defeating this will only require 1/3 of Congress. That will buy us time, and time is what we need to educate Congress that the Patriot Act is unnecessary and dangerous.

HOWEVER, our sources also tell us we're likely to lose this vote, UNLESS WE ACT IMMEDIATELY.

We have previously written about the Patriot Act and provided sample letters to oppose it:

* January 28:

* February 4:

Here's another. PLEASE tell Congress to oppose this bill and to REPEAL the Patriot Act.

You may borrow from or copy this letter . . .

I'm disturbed by Congress's negligent oversight of the Patriot Act . . .

* You haven't established that any of the powers given to the FBI and other federal agencies have actually PREVENTED acts of terrorism
* You have failed to investigate the FBI, or hold it accountable, for possibly tens of thousands of abuses

As a result . . .

* I don't feel that the Patriot Act has made us "safer"
* I'm more afraid of federal agents than I am of terrorists

Instead of renewing provisions of the Patriot Act, you should REPEAL all of it. And then you should hold hearings to investigate FBI abuses.

You can send your letter using's Educate the Powerful System.

The more people who participate, the better the chance of success. Please forward this message to friends.

You can also follow us on Twitter and re-tweet. The Patriot Act opposition movement is using the hashtag #patriotact
And while "Tweeting" any news of interest to other DC Downsizers, please use the hashtag #downsizedc

Were you lied to?

Quote of the Day: "True, it is evil that a single man should crush the herd, but see not there the worse form of slavery, which is when the herd crushes out the man." -- Antoine De Saintexupery (1900-1944) Source: Citadelle, 1948

A Florida court has struck down all of Obamacare as unconstitutional, but it will remain the law of the land until the Supreme Court rules.

So let's maintain our pressure on the Senate! I sent the following letter to my Congressional reps this morning . . .

The President and Congress promised that Obamacare would bring down healthcare costs. But Medicare's Chief Actuary, Richard Foster, just testified to the House Budget Committee that this claim is "false, more so than true." This makes me think I was lied to.

President Obama also promised that everyone who likes their current health insurance would be able to keep it. But many people are already losing their old health insurance because of Obamacare. This feels like another lie.

Candidate Obama promised that his healthcare bill would contain no requirement that would enrich health insurance companies by forcing citizens to buy their products. He even said, "Well, if things were that easy, I could mandate everybody to buy a house, and that would solve the problem of homelessness. It doesn’t."

Mr. Obama made quite a point of this when debating Hillary Clinton, but the law that people now call by his name, Obamacare, does exactly what he PROMISED it would not do. I'm quite certain I was lied to.

Politicians constantly promise to protect me from rapacious businesses, but that's another fraud. I can already protect myself by refusing to do business with companies I don't like. But how do I stop doing business with the federal state?

The best I can do is convince a majority of my fellow citizens to elect a Congress that will stop coercing me, but that's nearly impossible. So it's really you I need protection from, especially when you conspire with big businesses to pick my pocket for my own supposed benefit, as with Obamacare.

I'm angered by the hypocrisy. When a business does something wrong you politicians always erect some cancerous regulatory scam, like Sarbanes-Oxley, to punish the innocent along with the guilty, but do you hold the federal state to the same standard? NO! Not at all. Instead, it's lies, lies, lies, and fraud, fraud, fraud. Enough!

The Senate needs to repeal Obamacare, just like the House did. DO IT NOW!

You can copy or borrow from my letter above to send your own letter to Congress. Use our Educate the Powerful campaign on behalf of consumer controlled healthcare: healthcare:

The hardwired portion of the letter to Congress for this campaign reads . . .

True healthcare reform requires less government involvement, not more.

We always provide the first sentence of every letter to Congress so as to prevent our system from being used for purposes we disagree with.

If you agree with our position on this issue then please tell Congress!

Vice President, Inc.

Tracking Cookies are Crummy, says Search Engine Privacy-friendly URL Generator supports snoop-free settings

"Tracking cookies are not only obnoxious, they leave crumbs that lead marketers straight to your door," says Robert Beens, CEO of, the World's Most Private Search Engine.

So he's making it his mission to educate consumers about the "Internet crumbs" cookies leave behind. He's also encouraging consumers to delete tracking cookies from their computers on January 28 in honor of International Data Privacy Day.

Tracking cookies are "a huge privacy problem," according to Beens, who accuses advertisers of being information vultures. "A better name for them might be 'stalker cookies'," he says.

What some Internet companies are doing with consumer information is unconscionable, Beens contends. "Most consumers are unaware of how most big websites and search engines capture user cookie information and IP addresses to record their search terms, the times of their visits, and the links they click."

He points out that search engine records are especially invasive because they can reveal extremely personal information, like someone's interests, family situation, and medical conditions. These profiles are often stored in giant databases and used for marketing purposes. They can also be hacked or subpoenaed.

"Internet information can come back to haunt you," Beens warns. "If you search for information about diabetes, for example, that could be added to your consumer profile and potentially raise a red flag if you apply for a new job or a life insurance policy."

Beens' company offers consumers a cookie-free service, even when they want custom search settings. Startpage's new URL Generator encodes these settings in an anonymous URL that can be bookmarked or used to create an address bar search box. For example, if someone prefers large font and family-friendly filtering, the URL will automatically deliver searches just the way he or she likes them at every visit.

Startpage has always offered a non-identifying, anonymous cookie option for storing custom settings. This is still available for those users who selectively delete tracking cookies and know how to whitelist Startpage's privacy-friendly cookie.

"Our new URL Generator is just one more way we're offering innovative, privacy-friendly searches and helping to change how the Internet does business," says Beens. "We believe that privacy is a fundamental right and the basis of a free society. We're helping consumers enjoy all the Internet has to offer without giving up that right."

About Startpage

Startpage is an award-winning search engine with an industry-leading privacy policy. Startpage is the only major search engine to provide third-party certified, fully anonymous, private searches. Startpage offers SSL encryption and is the only one offering a free proxy service.
